The Subtle Difference Between Love and Fear in Disguise
Have you ever felt joy or love, only to realize later that it was tinged with something deeper? Perhaps a hint of fear, a need to be seen, or even a fear of losing it? If so, you’re not alone. Emotions—even those we think of as “positive”—can carry subtle undercurrents of past wounds or unmet needs. But what if there’s another layer, a higher octave of these feelings that’s accessible to you?
I recently stepped into this realization myself, and the experience has been nothing short of extraordinary. It’s like eating a truly “clean” meal. My body’s response isn’t just neutral; it’s deeply nourishing, charged, and full of vitality. It feels as though I’m drawing from a limitless reservoir of light and energy. The emotions I’ve begun to experience aren’t tethered to wounding or need—they’re expansive, free, and profoundly sweet.
Emotions as Layers: How Wounding Colors Our Joy
Emotions are rarely one-dimensional. Often, they’re layered, shaped not only by the present moment but also by the echoes of our past. Here are some examples that might feel familiar:
Joy tethered to validation: That rush of happiness when someone praises you—but beneath it lies a craving for approval, a need to be seen as “enough.”
Love entangled with fear: Falling deeply in love but feeling anxious about whether it will last, or whether you’re truly worthy of it.
Excitement born from escape: Throwing yourself into a new project, relationship, or adventure, not because it aligns with your desires, but because it’s a distraction from pain or emptiness.
These experiences aren’t “wrong.” They’re part of being human. But they’re not the whole picture. Beyond them lies a purer expression of these emotions, one that isn’t tangled up in fear, need, or past pain. And when you access that, it’s like nothing you’ve ever felt before.
The Shift: Releasing the Filters
My personal journey has been about releasing the memory of trauma from my body—from the cellular memory—and embodying the vibration of the version of me who acknowledges her past without letting it interfere with her self-devotion or sovereignty. Fear no longer has a seat at the table.
For me, this process wasn’t about changing into someone new. It was about unbecoming and re-membering a purity of thought, feeling, desire, and honoring of self. It was a journey of releasing filters that distorted my experience of joy, love, and bliss. Like cleaning a smudged window, I could suddenly feel the full brilliance of emotions that had always been there, waiting for me to notice.
Experiencing “Pure” Joy, Love, and Bliss
So what does it feel like to experience these emotions in their pure form? It’s subtle yet profound.
Joy becomes unshackled from outcomes. It’s not about achieving or receiving anything specific—it’s a state of being that simply is.
Love feels expansive and safe. It’s not grasping or clinging; it’s a generous, abundant flow.
Bliss arises from presence. It’s not an escape from discomfort but a deep appreciation for the moment as it is.
These feelings have a softness and vitality to them. They don’t rush or demand. They’re nourishing in a way that feels infinite.
An Invitation to Explore
This isn’t about striving for perfection or forcing your emotions to be “pure.” It’s about curiosity. It’s about noticing where your feelings arise from and asking gentle questions:
What would joy feel like if it didn’t depend on anything outside of me?
What would love feel like if I didn’t have to earn it?
There’s no need to rush this process. Begin where you are, and allow yourself to notice. Even a small shift in awareness can plant a seed for profound growth.
The Gift of Sweetness and Clarity
When I first began experiencing these higher-octave emotions, I questioned myself. Was I love-bombing myself? Was I fawning, being naive, or seeing the world through starry eyes? But as I embraced these sensations for what they are—divine clarity and purity—I realized they were reflecting back my own healed essence. It’s been an extraordinary experience.
This shift feels glorious, surprising, deeply sweet, and so much more. It’s not about becoming something “better” but about peeling back the layers to rediscover what was always there. It’s a homecoming to the most exquisite parts of ourselves, untethered and free.
What might this shift look like for you? What sweetness and clarity are waiting for you, just below the surface? I invite you to explore this, one step at a time, and see where it takes you.
Yours in pure sovereignty,
Sharon Marie Scott
