Living in Conscious Alignment

In order to talk about what it means to live consciously, we first have to talk about what it means to live unconsciously.

WHAT UNCONSCIOUSNESS LOOKS AND FEELS LIKE

To live unconsciously is to identify only with this physical reality. To rely only on the five senses to move through the world. To think you are your body, your emotions, your thoughts, your intellect. To believe your mind has no power over your reality and that what comes your way in life is simply a lucky or unlucky coincidence.

Misery and unhappiness are states of unconsciousness.

This was definitely me for the first 40 years of my life.

Unconscious people, like I was, struggle because events have happened to them - to me - that forced me to reject or ignore parts of myself in order to survive, or to belong.

When we have an overwhelming experience, it’s not always the physical experience that lingers with us, but the beliefs we create about life, the world, or ourselves as a result of that experience. Beliefs like:

Life is unfair.
I always lose.
I’m not enough.

We over-identify with our emotions.

I am angry.
I am sad.

Instead of observing the emotion:

I have anger.
I’m observing sadness.
I’m experiencing frustration.

We’re taught to judge our feelings, and life in general as “good” or “bad”.

But good and bad are just stories - uncomfortable emotions are really just sense-memories (memories of sensation) that are still being held in the cellular memory of the body-mind. And sometimes, the stories don’t even originate with us. Generational and ancestral memories are also held in our cells. Past life experiences play a part as well.

Because of the way we have been forced to adapt in our early lives, we grow up thinking of ourselves as individual entities who are separate from each other.. But we are the ones who have created that separation, from within. And as we grow older, we project these fragmented, unresolved pieces of ourselves onto others and the world…

It’s not our fault. We didn’t know any better - we were being raised largely by unconscious people.

We learned to think of ourselves as victims. We were taught that life is a zero sum game - that there is not enough for everyone and so some people have to lose out. We’re programmed to believe that fulfillment is found in making money and having social status.

But none of these things bring consciousness or true satisfaction.

In fact, focusing on status and power (over others) is to live life from a place of fear and separation and disempowerment.

And the more you identify as a victim (of someone or some circumstance), the more the Universe will bring you experiences that allow you to be a victim. That’s the Law of Attraction.

These are examples of our shadows.

WHAT IT MEANS TO BE CONSCIOUS

So what does it mean, then, to be conscious?

The first thing to know is that we are not a body that holds consciousness. We are consciousness tuned into a body.

Consciousness starts with awareness. There are essentially two parts to that awareness. The first is the awareness of what’s happening in the dimensional reality around you - including your unique thoughts, feelings, and sensations - and the second and more important component is the awareness of the consciousness that is perceiving those thoughts, feelings, and sensations.

The Observer of The Observer.

That is consciousness.

When we become consciously aware of the unconscious, we start to gain mastery over it. It is a paradigm shift that reconfigures the way we experience everything. We recognize - RE-COGNIZE - our identity and suddenly we can see that —

We are not our thoughts.
We are not our feelings.
We are not our wounding or our trauma.

We see more clearly that thoughts are tools, not truths. And that we have a choice in participating in those thoughts and feelings or not.

Consciousness is surrendering our deeply conditioned false beliefs about who we are and what the world is—and gaining divine clarity.

This clarity, along with the idea that we don’t have to buy into all of our thoughts and feelings, raises our overall vibration. When you are living from this “higher” (faster) frequency, magical things start to happen around you:

-Your body seems to “speak” more to you - you might start to naturally turn away from certain food and drink.
-Your sleep pattern might shift.
-You’re able to tap more directly into your intuition and this inexplicable “knowing”.
-People whose behavior you once tolerated or overlooked become intolerable to you.
-Little synchronicities happen around you (green lights, seeing 11:11 or repeating numbers everywhere, receiving unexpected gifts or manifesting serendipitous events).

This energy-to-form momentum begins to pick up and you become more empowered in your life because you are starting to see how your mind affects your reality.

LIVING IN CONSCIOUS ALIGNMENT - THE PRACTICE

Awareness is the first step in consciousness, but on its own, it isn’t enough to drive a person’s healing and spiritual expansion. You then have to apply that awareness to your human vessel, to this 3D existence.

You have to do the work.

Imagine you’re standing at the doorway of a dark expansive room. You know you need to get to the other side of the room. You step into the space and - whoops - you bump into something in the dark. You move in a different direction and - oof - hit another obstacle. Each time you try to move through the space you injure yourself again and again on stuff you can’t see.

This is us in our unconscious state.

Then your hand brushes a wall and you realize there’s a light switch. You turn it on. Light floods the room.

With the room illuminated now, you can see that between you and the door on the other side is an elaborate obstacle course. There are representations of past experiences and trauma that you’re going to have to crawl under, climb over, break through, take apart and put back together…

The light is awareness.

Even with the light on, you realize it’s going to take will, patience, creativity, and time to make your way to the other side.

This is consciousness.

Consciousness is when the game begins.

The journey might look daunting at first, like that obstacle course. But at least now, you are going in with awareness, purpose, and intention.

When you’re conscious you recognize that life isn’t happening to you, it’s happening for you. In fact, as you struggle through the first several obstacles, you realize that you’re building skills that you would’ve never even been inspired to learn but for those obstacles.

Because of those struggles, you’re stronger, more confident, more resilient, and have more capacity.

You begin to appreciate the journey for everything it’s teaching and bringing to you. Magic becomes more real. You witness more and more how your thoughts affect your reality.

You can feel the truth - that there is no actual separation between you and other people - they're just another unique expression of Source, like you, and their obstacle course is just different from ours.

There’s no such thing as good or bad because there’s a higher meaning for every experience that has ever happened.

There is a strong desire to find your purpose and to follow your passions. You see that life is meant to be enjoyed and that you are worthy to live the life of your dreams. Love and compassion are easier to reach and there is a natural and discernable lack of judgment of others because you understand that everyone is just on their own journey.

You realize that life is really one big first-person pov video game and not only are you the player character, but you are the game designer as well.

Once you have that unlock, life becomes about mastering the internal - especially the mind - in order to excel and thrive in the game.

This is living in your divine identity. This is what I call radical sovereignty.

I remember what it was like to still be asleep, to still be unconcsious. To live a fragmented life. To be fully aware of the limiting beliefs and dysfunction that were modeled for me - unhealthy boundaries, codependence, shame, perfectionism - but not know what to do with that awareness.

I also know what it’s like to do the work –

To transcend all of these stories –

And to excavate the divine me that was buried underneath.

So, how do we apply all of this? We integrate our shadows - those fragmented parts of ourselves.

Here’s a quote from psychoanalyst Carl Jung: “Everyone carries a shadow, and the less it is embodied in the individual's conscious life, the blacker and denser it is…”

The shadow self is part of the unconscious mind and is composed of repressed ideas, instincts, impulses, desires, perversions, and fears. Basically, all those things our early caretakers steered us away from or told us we shouldn’t do, or even want:

Don’t do that.
“Don’t touch that.”
“Don’t say/think/feel.”
“Don’t
be that…”

Like we talked about before, the development of our shadow self was a necessary survival mechanism as we learned to “belong” and to mold ourselves into “civilized members of society”. But these rejected parts of ourselves don’t just lay dormant inside of us. Jung warns us that unless we are consciously aware of or embodying the repressed desires that comprise our shadow, they will seek expression in unhealthy ways (judgment or criticism, passive aggression, violence to the self or others, etc.).

Conscious humans find healthy ways to express their shadow. And alternative lifestyles are a sexy as fuck way to do that!

When you consciously engage in your divine identity, you create the opportunity to turn dicomfort into sacred space, and to transform your relationship to your shadow from unconscious need to conscious choice.

You learn to reframe the thought-patterns of embarrassment, fear, and shame into arousal, pleasure, and celebration.

I want everyone to know the feeling of aliveness that comes from finally saying yes to their deepest desires. That’s why I have built a private subscription membership community - The Woo Underground - an inclusive, sex-positive, queer-, kink, and open relating-friendly space that supports spiritually-conscious people who are looking to integrate their spirituality with their alternative lifestyle.

A space that honors autonomy and sovereignty. Where we share our lived experiences, offer resources, and support each other’s personal and spiritual expansion.

Each month, we dive into intentional self-love and identity, purposeful relating, conscious kink, and spirituality. We explore topics like emotional accountability, somatic healing, and spiritual hygiene and maintenance. Members learn how to re-parent and nurture the youngest, neediest parts of themselves so that they can finally transcend the ego mind that wants to keep them small, or that holds them back from living LIFE TURNED ON,.

There is no reason to walk this journey of radical sovereignty alone. With mindfulness, intention, curiosity, and right support, I can help you make personal growth feel like a guilt-free pleasure.

Years from now, I want to look back and say I helped encourage a conscious, inclusive, and spiritually literate community that celebrates desire, deep connection, and passionate play as part of living a life that feels TURNED ON - in joy and sacred purpose - every day.

In wholeness,
Sharon Marie Scott
